Discover the 2025 Reston Home Tour: A Celebration of Home & Community
Each autumn, Reston comes alive with one of its most beloved traditions: the Reston Home Tour. In 2025, this self-guided event returns on Saturday, October 25, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, giving residents, design lovers, and neighbors a chance to walk through a curated selection of homes — each with its own story, style, and connection to this vibrant community.
As a Reston Museum board member and a longtime Reston resident, I’m honored to help lead this year’s edition. In this post, I’ll share what makes the tour special, what to expect this year, and why I believe it’s a must for anyone who loves architecture, community, and design.

What Makes the Reston Home Tour So Special?
-
A showcase of architectural diversity
Unlike many home tours that focus solely on large single-family houses, Reston’s tradition emphasizes variety. Expect to see condos, townhomes, renovated modern homes, historic houses, and more. -
Stories behind the homes
What brings these homes to life isn’t just their design — it’s the people who live in them. In past tours, we’ve had homes by long-time residents, interior designers, and even a condo belonging to Jonna Mendez (former CIA chief of disguise) filled with artifacts from her travels. -
Supporting local heritage
The Home Tour is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Reston Historic Trust & Museum. Proceeds go toward maintaining archives, hosting community events, and preserving Reston’s history. -
A community celebration
The Tour is as much about connecting with neighbors as it is about homes. It’s a day for reflection, inspiration, and celebrating what’s unique about Reston.
What’s New in 2025?
This year’s Tour features seven homes, each transformed by their owners’ visions for style, sustainability, and context.
Some highlights include:
-
A modern townhome (originally a 1993 duplex) beautifully reimagined by an interior decorator, blending soft neutrals, travel-inspired touches, and natural light.
-
A contemporary home with floor-to-ceiling windows, a screened porch, and a backyard oasis complete with a fire pit and pond.
-
JW Marriott Reston Station condominiums, offering luxury units with hotel-style amenities — now open to tour participants.
As of October 23, the full map and list of homes will be available for advance planning on the Reston Museum website.
